RAJ KUMAR

This story shows how one person’s selfless decision can potentially bring color back to someone else’s world.

A 45-year-old painter, Raj Kumar (name changed), lost both hands in a tragic train accident in 2020. For four years, the brushes that once brought his imagination to life lay silent. But then something extraordinary happened…

Meena Mehta (name changed), a retired vice principal, had always wanted to donate her body after death. When she was declared brain-dead, her family honored her wishes. This decision would change everything, giving this artist a chance to paint again.

In January 2024, doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital achieved what seemed impossible: Delhi’s and North India’s first successful bilateral hand transplant! Even more noteworthy? This was one of the few such transplants performed on a person with darker skin tones.

He was discharged in early March 2024, giving a double thumbs-up to symbolize his progress.

Nightfam, this reminds us that even in our darkest moments, hope can come from the most unexpected places. Sometimes, the greatest masterpiece isn’t what we create – it’s the legacy we choose to leave behind.
